Mike Darter

Mike was a police officer in Oklahoma City from 1991-2001, and a federal contractor for the DOJ from 2001-2011. During his career, Mike investigated and testified in hundreds of violent crimes, including shootings, homicides, and other violent felony crimes. Mike was unfortunately involved in a shooting as a police officer and went through a lawsuit from that shooting. The lawsuit was later dismissed, but his experience is what led to the creation of CCW Safe, a legal membership service for concealed carriers and gun owners. Mike is also a former law enforcement instructor in Defensive Tactics and Custody and Control, and is also a nationally recognized Judo coach. He was adamant about teaching his three daughters self-defense, and was approached multiple times throughout his career to do self-defense training for young girls. He always wondered if there was a better way to establish and implement training, because most of the time, girls had no desire to participate or were intimidated by combat sports. When his daughter Ashlyn was a senior at the University of Oklahoma, they discussed creating some kind of platform, and Ashlyn was excited about the opportunity. While Mike had observed the demand throughout his career, Ashlyn had experienced first-hand the need for women’s safety training with stalking in her sorority house, exposure to domestic violence, and more. Together as a dad and daughter duo, they created Operation Halo. Mike extends his protective nature for his own daughters to parents of girls everywhere, and is committed to educating their daughters on the same topics he has educated his own on.
