After taking the situational awareness course, I started paying more attention to my surroundings. One night, I noticed someone walking behind me a little too closely. Because of what I learned, I changed my route, stayed in a lit area, and called a friend until I got home safely.

The course taught me to always have an exit plan. I was at a crowded event and noticed tension rising between two groups. I spotted the nearest exit early on and was able to leave quickly before anything escalated.

I used to brush off my instincts, but the course helped me trust that gut feeling. I was in a rideshare and something felt off, so I asked the driver to stop and let me out in a public area. Looking back, I know I made the right call.

Thanks to Operation Halo, I now make it a habit to scan my surroundings. I was walking through a parking garage and noticed someone lingering by the stairwell. I chose to take the main exit instead and avoided a situation that could have turned unsafe.

The situational awareness training helped me become more confident when I travel alone. In one city, I realized someone was trying to distract me while another circled behind me. Because I recognized the signs, I moved to a safe place before anything could happen.

A few years ago, I was leaving a hospital late at night and noticed a man sitting in a car near mine, engine running, lights off. Something felt off. Instead of walking straight to my car, I went back inside and asked security to escort me. Turns out he had been sitting there for over an hour. Situational awareness doesn’t mean being paranoid — it means trusting your instincts and giving yourself options.

Operation Halo Success Story

Meet the girls and women making waves with Operation Halo. From first-time defenders to fearless leaders, these are the stories that remind us what’s possible when we rise together.

Maya had always walked home the same way after soccer practice. It was a quiet route through her neighborhood — familiar, routine, and easy to zone out on. But after completing her Operation Halo course, she started paying attention to things she used to overlook: cars that slowed down, people walking behind her, the feeling in her gut when something didn’t sit right.

One evening, she noticed a car creeping behind her without making any turns. The windows were tinted, and it matched her pace. Her stomach tightened — but instead of freezing, she trusted the instincts she had learned to sharpen. She crossed the street, called her dad, and walked straight to a nearby gas station. The car eventually drove off, and Maya got home safely.

“Before Operation Halo, I never realized how much I ignored my instincts. After the course, I started listening to them — and that confidence changed everything.”

Maya
